I recently joined the Steer Leeds office as part of the 2018 graduate intake. After a graduate induction week that was filled with introductions, training courses and new faces, I am proud to say that I am starting my career at Steer.
On my first day, I was anxious and had no idea what to expect. It was clear that my graduate cohort felt the same as we all greeted each other with a similar look of nerves! The Learning and Development Team acted fast, and we quickly opened up to each other after some obligatory ice-breakers! The rest of the day included an introduction to Steer’s Divisions. We had the chance to hear from each Division in Steer and learn about the global markets in the firm’s offer. This gave us a rounded picture of the company and our role to play as Assistant Consultants in the next 18 months!
Following an office tour (where we were continually greeted by friendly colleagues), our graduate cohort were welcomed by Steer’s CEO, Hugh Jones, and UK Managing Director, Sharon Daly. This really confirmed that Steer has a warm and welcoming culture. Even though this was just our first day, we were immediately made to feel integrated and a part of the team.
The graduate scheme is structured and a support network of Personal Supervisors, Graduate Buddies and Graduate Sponsors are provided from day one. In fact, Steer held a company social where we had a great chance to get to know our Personal Supervisors and colleagues outside the office!
The rest of the week consisted of presentations and technical training sessions from industry-leading experts. I feel lucky to be joining a company that places such a great emphasis on career development and I am now looking forward to putting everything I have learned into practice!
At this moment in time, I am in my first few days of working in the Leeds office. My colleagues have made me feel extremely welcome and I am working well in my new team. In fact, I have been placed straight into project work and contributing already! I am confident that the skills and knowledge from my induction week will help me tackle the challenges ahead.
