My career at Steer has been incredibly varied. It has provided me with an extensive knowledge of the company and some very useful skills that have proved integral to my current role in HR. Above all else, Steer has given me the opportunity to work, meet and learn from incredibly gifted and amazing people who work together towards one single objective — our ongoing success.
I joined Steer as a senior consultant in our office in Chile, after seven years working as a project manager for the World Bank in Honduras. As part of the team in Chile, I helped design the organisation of six bus companies that were bidding for the Transantiago bus transport system. I also participated in various other projects that gave me the opportunity to learn from my colleagues and to develop skills that I have found incredibly useful throughout my career.
Two years after joining Steer, I decided to apply for a role in the bids and marketing team in the London office. To my amazement, my application was successful and before I knew it I was working and living in London! The company, especially my new team, made me feel really welcome and helped me settle into life in a new city. Soon after starting my new role, I was managing the implementation of a new system for the bids team, redesigning our internal project and proposal agenda and creating various metrics to help measure the success of the bidding process across the group, which also required me to share my time with the Finance team.
After a couple of years, an opportunity to join the HR team arose and my role changed to HR Advisor for our UK business. I worked hard in developing my new career path and I am now International HR Business Partner looking after our Latin American offices, plus India and Italy, and I am still very much involved in the day-to-day operations of the team in London.
I feel lucky in having experienced the company from different angles and in different roles. It has deepened my knowledge of Steer and has enabled me to make new friends and to meet incredible people across all our offices. Above all else, it has helped me to understand how the effort and work of one individual collaborating with their team can strengthen the company, allowing us to face the challenges and opportunities that a changing environment brings.
