Steer helps win approval for the redevelopment of the former Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital in London’s Knowledge Quarter

We are delighted to announce that Groveworld has secured a resolution to grant planning permission from Camden Council for the redevelopment of the former Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital at 330 Gray’s Inn Road in King’s Cross.

Steer has been working on the proposals with Groveworld and AHMM architects since June 2019, to bring forward a mixed-use masterplan of five new buildings providing a 182 room hotel (with café, restaurant and gym), 14,000 sqm of innovative office space (including lab-enabled floors) and 72 high-quality-homes – 50% of which will be designated as affordable housing.

At the heart of the scheme is a hard-landscaped courtyard which will provide a new public space and a quiet pedestrian route from King’s Cross towards Mount Pleasant.

Services provided by Steer included a connectivity study to advise on additional pedestrian connections, design of an off-street servicing yard, cycle parking and waste storage needs and preparation of a suite of transport documents to support the planning application. We have led extensive consultation with TfL and Camden Highways officers over the past two years and supported Groveworld with s106 negotiations.

The application will now be referred to the GLA with works expected to start early next year.
