Oxford already has one of the highest mode shares for cycling of all UK cities and is world renowned for its cycling culture. While the city has extensive on-road and off-road infrastructure, its network is not complete.
The purpose of this project was to develop a cycling infrastructure plan for Oxfordshire County Council, setting out the schemes needed to complete and connect the city's existing cycle network by 2020 and identify more ambitious schemes for implementation by 2035, or sooner if funding becomes available.
Our team’s work included site visits to identify potential solutions to gaps in the cycle network. We also facilitated a stakeholder workshop, attended by local campaigners and City and County Council Members.
We reviewed city centre cycle parking and made recommendations for how and where capacity can be increased.
Successes and outcomes
We delivered a comprehensive report including a series of concept design drawings that could be taken forward to detailed design as funding becomes available.
Schemes included in the report have since been identified by local public sector stakeholders as supportive of their development ambitions and are being taken to the next stage of feasibility design.
